Behind the name

\v(a)-nessa, van(es)-sa\ as a girl's name is pronounced va-NESS-ah. It is of Greek origin, and the meaning of  Vanessa is "butterfly". Many people are familiar with it, as it has a near-global distribution and includes conspicuous species such as the red admirals and the painted ladies of subgenus Cynthia. (from WIKIPEDIA)
